In this FoodCare Training, you will learn more about Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) and how you can help residents with this condition to have a safe and enjoyable dining experience. You will learn about the new IDDSI framework and how you can make sure your food has the right texture.

Introductory FoodCare Training

This is an introductory course that teaches basic and general information. It will take approximately 15-25 minutes to complete this training.

Who Developed this Training

The content for this training module was developed by Speech Language Therapist Renee Taylor, with support from our Dietitians Jess Bowden and Nicole Taylor.

Renee Taylor

Renee Taylor holds a Masters of Speech Language Therapy from the University of Auckland, Auckland.

Renee is the founder and director of Swallow & Speech Therapy Consultants Ltd. She has worked in many areas of speech-language therapy including the Ministry of Education, ACC subcontracting for clients with traumatic brain injuries, and currently works for Counties Manukau District Healthboard with adults in the community. She also holds the Māori and Cultural Development Portfolio on the Executive Board for the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA). Renee also works as the consultant speech-language therapist to “The Pure Food Co” who specialise in texture modified foods. Renee has a special interest in adult swallowing disorders particularly in an aged care setting, as well as clients with neuro-degenerative conditions, and head and neck cancer. She is a strong advocate for advanced care planning and quality palliative care management. Renee prides herself in providing a holistic and client centered approach to her work.
